Guandan Rule 掼蛋

Bombs, and the one that beats everything

Bombs ignore the shape on the table. Learn the ladder from four-of-a-kind up to the four jokers that nothing can top.

A bomb is the game’s trump. It beats any normal combo no matter the shape — you can drop a four-of-a-kind onto a straight and take the pile. The only thing that beats a bomb is a bigger bomb.

How bombs are ranked

Two rules decide it. More cards always wins: a six-card bomb beats a five, a five beats a four. When two bombs are the same size, the higher rank wins. Sitting oddly in the middle is the straight flush — five cards of one suit in sequence — which slots in above the five-of-a-kind and below the six.

JOKERJOKERJOKERJOKER

The royal bomb — all four jokers.

At the very top is the royal bomb: all four jokers together, two coloured and two black-and-white. Nothing beats it, it cannot be built with wild cards, and because there are only four jokers in the two decks it can appear at most once a round.

Tip · A bomb spent to win a trivial pile is a bomb you do not have when your partner is one card from going out. Count before you blow.
